Obituary of Donald W. Holzhauer

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Mr. Donald W. Holzhauer, age 78, of State Route 5, St. Johnsville, passed away on Sunday evening, October 20, 2019, in Syracuse, New York. His family was at his side.

He was born on November 9, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Wayne Cassidy and Helen Holzhauer and served in the United States Marines. His marriage to Mary Ann DeGristina took place in 1967. Mary Ann passed away on October 30, 2013. Don was a self-employed owner and operator of D & M Mobile Homes, St. Johnsville, New York. He was a past union president at Beech-Nut, and had also worked with Freihofer’s Bakery Outlet, Palatine Bridge. He was a member of American Legion Posts in Little Falls, New York and Madeira Beach, Florida. Don loved golf and cooking, traveling and spending time in Florida and watching Raiders football. First and fore most Don spent as much time as he could with his family, all of whom he loved dearly.

His loving family survivors include his children: Frederick Pierce and his wife, Agatha, of St. Johnsville, Donna Henshaw, of Maine, Cheri Holzhauer, of Largo, Florida and Diana Holzhauer, of Liverpool, New York; his siblings, Julie and John; along with grandchildren, Christopher Pierce, Tony Vincent, Ashley Besemer, Nicole Holzhauer and Jena Giruzzi; also a soon to be great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and In-Laws. He was predeceased by his brother, Jim; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019. The time is private and convenient to his family with an intimate graveside interment ceremony in St. Johnsville Cemetery with Joseph Cechnicki, Deacon from Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, officiating. There are no calling hours. Those wishing to remember Don and his family in a special way are asked to consider a donation in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
