Obituary of Paul M. Schultz, Sr.

TOWN OF STARK - Paul M. Schultz, Sr., 69, of Travis Road, passed away peacefully, at home, with his family, on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. Paul leaves his wife of 48 years, Donna Tienhaara Schultz; his son, Paul Schultz, Jr. and his wife Rhonda, of Summerville, SC; his daughter, Emily Mayton and husband, David, of Starkville; his three grandchildren, Joshua Mayton, Jacob Mayton and Sarah Schultz; his sister, Linda Poulin, of Westborough, MA; his brother, Richard Schultz, of Rutland, MA; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, especially Donald Poulin and his wife, Kim, of Lancaster, MA and Fred Schultz and fiancée, Kelly Perkins, of Lee, NH, with whom he and his family made many happy memories. He is also survived by dear friends, Aaron, Crystal and Hailey Gerhardt, of the Town of Stark. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Herman Schultz, of Bolton, MA, Ronald Schultz and Marlene Dorazio, both of Clinton, MA and Arlene Anderson, of Virginia. Born and raised in Clinton, MA, Paul was the youngest son of Floris Lamlein and Herman Schultz. As a young man, Paul entered the family tradition of farming, raising both dairy cows and vegetables. He continued on to other work in the auto repair, excavation, and landscaping industries, eventually returning to farming when he and his family moved to Central New York, in 1983. He later began transporting and brokering cattle, establishing Schultz Trucking in 1987, a business that he continued and was passionate about until the time of his death. Paul was known for treasuring every moment with his family and friends. He most enjoyed being in his shop and the time he spent with everyone who stopped by to work on a project or just to socialize. He was loved most for his giant bear hugs, big heart, frankness, wit and the soft spot he had for all animals, large and small. Paul enjoyed throwing horseshoes and bowling, growing vegetables and plants and the many happy weekends he spent hunting, camping, or fishing on the lakes of New York or in the saltwater of South Carolina. The annual Thanksgiving Deer Camp was an event he looked forward to with great anticipation and which provided many years of joyful memories. He loved to watch westerns, especially those starring John Wayne, Let’s Make a Deal and The Price is Right. Paul and Donna enjoyed traveling, including trips to Alaska, Maine, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Nevada and a long-awaited trip to Germany that was a highlight of Paul’s last year. Paul’s laugh, down-to-earth wisdom and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will keep his wood stove and his favorite stool ready and who will also make sure there is plenty of Genny Light at Rt. 80 Bowl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413, www.hospicecareinc.org, or to the Basloe Library, 245 North Main Street, Herkimer, NY 13350, herkimerbasloelibrary.org. Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, January 25th, 2020, at 2:00 PM, directly at the Chapel of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, in Ilion, New York (Town of Frankfort), where Pastor Theresa Grescheck will lead us in prayer. As a tribute to Paul, the family will be present at the funeral home on Saturday, prior to the services from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM to receive relatives and friends during these calling hours and all are invited to attend the funeral services as well. All funeral arrangements have been planned at The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia (315) 894-8000.
