Obituary of Archie I. Bassette, Jr.

LASSELLSVILLE – Mr. Archie I. “Buzz” Bassette, Jr., age 77, a longtime resident of Lassellsville, New York, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at St. Mary’s Healthcare, Amsterdam, after a courageous battle with cancer with those he so dearly loved always by his side. Mr. Bassette was born April 8, 1943, in Albany, New York, the son of the late Archie I. Bassette, Sr. and Ethel (Rung) Bassette. He was a graduate of Albany High School. Archie served in the United States Army in the 1960’s and was the former owner of Sand Creek Auto Repair in Colonie, as well as an Independent New York State Licensed Automobile Insurance Adjuster. He was a skilled auto repair technician and meticulous carpenter. Mr. Bassette was a self-taught guitar player and clever song writer. He loved country and cross-over music and was a life-long fan of all cars, their history and design and especially vintage cars. Above all, he dearly cherished his children, Derek, of Buffalo, New York, and Nicki (Marc), of Altamont, New York, his dearest Annie Reffue, at home and his “furry son,” Buddy Irving Bassette. His residence in the Adirondacks brought him joy and peace. Archie would do anything for anyone at any time. He will forever be greatly missed by those who had the pleasure to know him. He is survived by his dear friends, Joelle, Larry, Ted and Dirck; his Gloversville and Johnstown friends; his church family, at the Gloversville First Congregational Church; and two sisters. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020, at 11:30 AM at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 31-33 East Fulton Street, Gloversville, New York, with Rev. R.W. Williams, officiating. Internment will take place in Fical Cemetery, Town of Ephratah, where he will be laid to rest. Although there are no calling hours, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service and the interment service to follow. If you plan to attend the funeral service, a face mask will be required. It is the wish of the family that in lieu of floral offerings, contributions in Archie's memory may be offered to either the Margaret Reaney Memorial Library, 19 Kingsbury Avenue, St. Johnsville, New York 13452, the Brennan Humane Society, 437 9 Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, New York 12078, or to the charity of one’s choice. Envelopes for these purposes will be available at the services on Friday, September 11th or anytime at the Enea Family Funeral Home. The family is so very thankful and appreciative to the Lassellsville Fire Department, the St. Johnsville Ambulance and Paramedics as well as to all of our friends and neighbors for the care and compassion they provided to Archie and his loved ones during this difficult unexpected time. Archie’s funeral arrangements have been planned with the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, in St. Johnsville, New York, Funeral Directors Harry J. Enea, Jr., Kevin E. Enea and Martin L.
