Obituary of Helen B. Smith

FRANKFORT – Mrs. Helen B. Smith, age 90, a lifelong Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, January 12, 2021, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. Born in Frankfort on March 16, 1930, Helen was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Emrich) LaRouche. She was raised and educated locally and attended Frankfort schools. On September 8, 1950, Helen was wed to Harold Smith in Elmonte, California, and they shared in over seventy years of a blessed and loving union. They were united by common goals and values and together, proudly raised five children. Helen was a doting wife, mother and grandmother and did everything to provide her family with a loving upbringing. She was wonderful homemaker, cook and baker and her happiest times were those surrounded by her family. She shared a special bond with each of her grandchildren and loved to watch them as they grew. She will be dearly missed but will forever be in the hearts of those who loved her most. Survivors include her beloved husband, Harold; her daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Tom Madaras of Cassville and Lynn and Tom Hocking of Frankfort; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Deborah Smith of West Frankfort and John and Jennifer Smith of Temecula, CA; always in her heart was the memory of her son, Glenn H. Smith, who passed away on March, 17, 2020. She also leaves her eight grandchildren, Thomas and Heather Madaras, Chad Madaras and Jessica Kast, Alan and Bianca Smith, Cheryl Smith and Chris, Samantha Smith, Jack Smith, Amanda Hocking, Adam Hocking and Shawna Recore; her three great-grandchildren, Thomas Madaras, Lucas Madaras and Dexter Smith; her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Richard Fredericks of Tenessee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Aside from her son, Glenn, Helen was predeceased by her brothers, John LaRouche and Eugene “Bud” LaRouche; and her sisters, Ida Cross, Laura Schiller and June O’Dell. Due to current health restrictions, Helen’s family will gather in a private ceremony to bid their farewells. Spring interment will take place in Mt. View Memorial Gardens in Little Falls.
