Obituary of Ernest J. Cammarere

HERKIMER – Mr. Ernest J. “Ernie” Cammarere, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, February 1, 2021 at the Abraham House in Rome. Born on May 14, 1935, Ernest was the son of the late Rocco and Jenny (Messina) Cammarere. He was raised and educated in Gloversville where he graduated from high school. He then went on to continue his education at the Mohawk Valley Technical Institute, taking courses in computer technology. Ernie proudly served in the United States Navy post-Korea and after his honorable discharge returned to the Mohawk Valley. It was around this time that he met a young lady named Josephine Pacchiarotti at a local church function, and the two fell in love. Ernie and Josephine were married on July 4, 1959 at the Christian Assembly Church in Dolgeville and spent over 58 years in a blessed and devoted union, until Josephine’s passing on August 30, 2017. Their family takes comfort in knowing that the two are once again reunited in Heaven. Ernie began his career as a computer technician with UNIVAC and then with MDS in Herkimer before finally taking a position in the maintenance department of Little Falls Hospital; working for seventeen years until his retirement. Ernie was a man of faith and a longtime member of the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church in Herkimer. He was an accomplished musician who could play any instrument that was placed into his hands, but held an affinity for the violin and the piano. One of his favorite pastimes was recording music on an old computer that his son gave him. He passed his talents and love of music on to his children and grandchildren and his legacy will continue to live on through them. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Esther and Martin Burrello of Herkimer; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Renee Cammarere of Frankfort; his grandchildren, Bianca and AJ Smith, Jonathan Burrello, Rocco Cammarere and fiancé, Rebecca Melaragno, Elaina Burrello and Tressa Burrello; and one great-grandson, Dexter Smith. He also leaves his brothers, Saviur and Ella Mae Cammarere of Gloversville and Benjamin Cammarere of Johnstown; his special friend and companion, Catherine Flynn of Herkimer; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents and beloved, Josephine, he was predeceased by his in-laws, Frank and Sarah Pacchiarotti and Marion and Adam Bogdanchik. Due to current health restrictions, Ernie’s family will gather privately to bid their farewells and celebrate his life. A public graveside service will take place in the spring in Oak Hill Cemetery at a date and time to be announced.
