Obituary of Viola M. Lyons

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mrs. Viola M. Lyons, age 90, who currently resided at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, in St. Johnsville, New York for the past year, and subsequently received tender loving care there, passed away with her loving family at her side at that facility on Thursday evening, February 4, 2021. She was born on December 10, 1930, in St. Johnsville, New York, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Bertha (Bronk) Snell and was educated in local schools. Viola worked for many years with Helmont Mills as a knitter. Her marriage was to George Lyons for many years and he passed away in 1984. She was also predeceased by her beloved son, Gary Lyons; and her siblings, Carol Smith and Richard Snell. Viola was the sweetest mother and grandmother that we could ever ask for. Her greatest passion was bird watching, she just absolutely loved it. She was always gracious and kind to her cherished animals, her cats and dogs. She dedicated and oriented her life around her family, the most special ‘Gram’ to all the kids. Additionally, she was a champion when it came to crosswords, Viola was the best! She is survived by her children: Sandra Brewer and her husband, David, of Ilion, New York, George Lyons, Sr. and his wife, Freida, of St. Johnsville, New York; and her son, Gary, preceded her in death; and Judy Lyons also survives. Her grandchildren are Katina Dinehart and her husband, Mike, of St. Johnsville, George Lyons, Jr. and his wife, Danielle, of Salisbury, Joseph Lyons and his wife, Elizabeth, of Watertown, Sean Brewer and his wife, Melissa, of Ilion, Erika Lyons, of St. Johnsville and Eric Moyer, of Ephratah; along with her great-grandchildren, Corey Cogan and his fiancée, Courtney, Breana Cogan, Kassidy Lyons, Natalie & Nicholas Mosher, Ariel and Brenna Brewer, and Eric and Jake Moyer; great-great grandchildren, Claire and Chloe; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings, Sarah Snell Lyons, of Randall, NY, Bonnie Snell Greenberg, of St. Johnsville, Betty Snell Flint, of Canajoharie, Millard Snell and his wife, Martha, of Nelliston and Kenneth Snell and his wife, Sharon, of Maryland. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, in St. Johnsville, New York, consisting of a family calling hour from 1PM until 2PM at the funeral home, thence opening up for friends to attend a calling hour from 2PM until 3PM. Spring interment will take place in West St. Johnsville Cemetery within her family plot. If you plan to attend the calling hours, a face mask will be required. Thank you. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Viola be considered in her name to either the Ayers Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, New York 12166, or to the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, 7 Timmerman Avenue, St. Johnsville, New York 13452.
