Obituary of John Joseph White

ILION – John J. White, age 80, of Ocala, FL, formerly of Ilion, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Ocala Regional Medical Center, Ocala, FL. He was born on November 29, 1940, in Herkimer, the son of Bernard White, Sr. and Betty (Tinkler) White. He graduated from Herkimer High School. In 1968, He was married to Betty Elthorp Orr. She died in August of 2005. John worked in the Aerospace Division at General Electric Co., Utica, NY, for many years. He was a veteran in the US Army, serving in Desert Storm. John was an avid baseball fan and card collector. Surviving family members include his son, Robert “Rob” White, of Sauquoit, NY; his daughter, Jennifer White, of NC; his brothers and sisters, including Bernard and Marion White, of Ilion, Donald “Pete” White, of Ilion, Ruth White, of Ilion, Beverly and David Oram, of Nashville, TN, Roy and Mary White, of Mohawk, Colleen and Jim Rowe, of Johnson City, TN, Sue and Keith Foley, of Tacoma, WA, Steve and Kim White, of Surfside, SC, Daniel and Christine White, of Newport, NY, Gail and Tommy Tate, of Rockville, TN and Paul and Pam White, of Midlothian, VA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty; and his sisters, Karen E. Ford and Joanne Morse. Anyone wishing to share a memory of John, or add to his online memorial, may go to www.applegateanday.com. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location, at 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY (old Main St. between Ilion and Frankfort).
