Obituary of Evelyn S. Cruz

FRANKFORT - On April 7, 2021, Evelyn Sevilla Cruz passed away at the age of 87 with her loving family by her side. Evelyn was born February 17, 1934 in Manilla, Philippines, daughter of Dr. Nicolas S. Sevilla and Emilia Sevilla. She lived out her childhood and early adult years in the Philippines with her parents and seven siblings, Momerto, Bartolome, Zorayda, Rosalinda, Ismaelita, Nicolas Jr., And Asucena. With Evelyn’s strong devotion to education, she attended the University of the Philippines in which she received her bachelor’s degree. She was a social worker and worked with American Red Cross in the Philippines. She was married to Jose Cruz, and had two beautiful girls, Cecilia Cruz and Cristina Scalise. With her strong soul and aspirations, she would continue her life in the United States where her greatest journey would begin. Evelyn worked at Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Her hard work has paid off and she began a journey for her family that will continue for generations to come. Evelyn never passed up an opportunity for travel and adventure with the family. Each moment was always captured through her camera lens to be placed in countless photo albums. Her driven and ambitious spirit did not fail her by helping to fulfill her desire to see the world. By her retirement she was blessed with a son-in-law, Ed Scalise, who married her youngest daughter, Cristina. Her love for animals was only superseded by her love for her family. Her passions did not stop short with animals. She was blessed with a green thumb, piano skills that could move a room and talent for cooking that remains unmatched. Evelyn leaves behind her greatest legacy, her granddaughters, Leah and Lindsay Scalise. Full of faith, joy, and ambition, her spirit will remain timeless. Calling hours will be held on Thursday morning, April 15th, from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM, at The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, New York (Town of Frankfort). All are invited to attend and the funeral home staff will assist in accommodating friends and relatives who are also invited to attend Evelyn’s funeral service which will commence on Thursday morning, April 15, 2021, at 10:30AM, at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, in Frankfort, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frankfort is where final interment will take place. Due to current health restrictions all who attend services will be asked to wear a mask and social distancing will be in effect.
