Obituary of Helen Sokol

HERKIMER - Helen Sokol, 92, of Herkimer and most recently of Foltsbrook Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Herkimer, passed away on April 19th, 2021. Helen was born on December 1, 1928, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Panko Sokol and Eva (Fesh) Sokol. She was a graduate of Herkimer High School and the Utica School of Commerce. Helen worked at Univac, Salada Tea, Remington Arms, and the H.M. Quackenbush Company, until her final retirement in 1991. She was a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, East Herkimer and a member of the "R" Club and St. Anna's Altar Society, where she served as President. She also served on the Parish Council. Throughout her life, she was an avid gardener, golfer and bowler, enjoying tournament bowling well into her 80s. Helen leaves behind her beloved sisters, Nellie Hrynda, of Ellenville, NY and Christine Sokol, of Herkimer. She is also survived by her nephews, Paul P. Sokol and his wife, Patricia, of Flemington, NJ, and Daniel Hrynda and his wife, Julia, of Middletown, NY; nieces, Julie Sokol Todd and her husband, Thomas, of Herkimer, Rosanne Danielak Kenney and husband, Thomas, of Baldwinsville, NY, Sandra Hrynda Oglesby and her husband, Donald, of Ellenville, NY, Debra Danielak Slack and her husband, Geoff, of Mastic Beach, NY; great-nephews, Zachary Sokol, Aiden and Austin Hrynda, Luke Kenney, Ian Oglesby and William Slack; and great-nieces, Nicole and Natalie Todd, Alexandra Hrynda, Ina Oglesby and Mary Slack. She was predeceased by a brother, Michael P. Sokol and his wife, Josephine; sisters, Mary Sokol Lepkowski and her husband, Leon, Rose Sokol, of Herkimer, Mildred Sokol, of Folcroft, PA, Ann Sokol Danielak and her husband, Stanley, of Herkimer; and a brother-in-law, Metro Hrynda. Helen will be dearly missed and remembered by her family and friends, as she always showed dedication and contributed with working hands toward her family and community. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, on Thursday, April 22, from 2-4pm and from 6-8pm, with Parastas service at 7pm. Helen’s funeral will commence on Friday, April 23, with prayer at 12:30pm at the funeral home, continuing at Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, at 1pm, with Fr. Vasil Dubee, officiating. Helen will be laid to rest at Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Cemetery, Herkimer. If you are planning to attend the calling hours or funeral service, due to COVID restrictions, a mask will be required.
