Obituary of Margaret G. Nemyier

ILION – Mrs. Margaret G. Nemyier, 90, of East Main Street, Ilion, New York, passed away suddenly, on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, in Utica, New York. She was born on December 23, 1930, in Herkimer, New York a daughter of the late Franklin C. and Reba (Jones) Culver and was a graduate of Ilion High School, ‘Class of 1949.’ She went on to attend and graduate from Oneonta State in 1953 and then attended Geneseo College where she received her master’s degree in 1973. She was united in marriage to Charles Nemyier in the Ilion United Methodist Church, on July 22, 1978 and he passed away October 20, 2003. The couple had lived in Richfield Springs prior to moving to Ilion in 2000. Margaret was a teacher for 23 years, retiring in 1985, namely at the Webster Central Schools in Webster, New York, subsequently a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Ilion and at one time the financial secretary and a member of the Esther Circle, as well as Forever Young, Red Hat Society, active Democratic Party member in Ilion, Little Theatre Club of Ilion and the Young at Heart Seniors of Frankfort. We will miss Margaret as a member of our community where she did so much volunteer work particularly with the American Red Cross portraying Clara Barton, active with the General Herkimer Home and reach to recovery, of Rochester, New York. She was an Avon lady for over twenty years. She volunteered for Mount Hope Cemetery, in Rochester, for over five years and was in Who’s Who in America and American Women for two years. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy West, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; nephews, Michael (Shawn) West and Anthony (Regina) West; and a great-nephew, Steven West. Funeral services will be held in the form of a graveside service, on Friday, July 2, 2021, at 10:00 AM, at Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion, New York. There will be no calling hours preceding the service.
