Obituary of David A. Carrig

LITTLE FALLS - David A. Carrig, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20th, 2019, at McCall Hospice House of Greenville, Simpsonville, SC, with loving family and hospice staff at his side. David was born on March 25th, 1929, in the Town of Little falls, N.Y., the youngest son of John J. and Marie Morgan Carrig. Growing up with his 7 siblings on the family’s Hillsdale Dairy Farm, David became owner/operator into the 1970’s. He was always an avid champion for family farms. Moving to the City of Little Falls, “Pop” served his community in many roles: support staff at Little Falls High School; crew member of the L.F. DPW; and groundskeeper of Veterans’ Memorial Park – preparing the fields for many sporting events – from hosting the Little Falls Mets, to LFHS games, to Little League, and more. After retirement from the City, he was also a consultant for the Utica Blue Sox organization. David spent most of his life in Little Falls, later dividing early retirement years between L.F. and Miami FL. Along with his wife of 67 years, Doris Albright Carrig, he enjoyed the last several years at Westminster Retirement Community in Greenville, SC, - the site of many fun family gatherings. Doris predeceased him on June 23rd, 2017. “Pop” is survived by his beloved daughters, Cynthia (Tom) Calautti, of FL, and Beth (Phillip) Doty of FL; his loving sons, David (Kristen) Carrig, of SC, Jeffrey (Audrey) Carrig, of RI, Dan (Jetta) Carrig of Mohawk, NY and Jamie (Emma) Carrig, of Miami; his 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. David is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kathryn (Albright) Murnane and husband, Thomas Murnane and family, of Plattsburgh, NY. He was predeceased by his sisters, Theresa (Stuart) Balderston, Mary (Bob) Lynch, Louise (Frank) Schuyler and Theodus (Charles) Riley; and his brothers, John (Agnes), Morgan (Anne), and Thomas (Theresa) Carrig. David will be remembered for his quick wit, keen sense of humor, wonderful voice, and great storytelling of life on the farm. He loved breakfast at The Roost, golfing with brother Tom, family, and friends, Saratoga with Bert and crew, the many “Hours of Happy” on Moreland St., poolside in Mohawk, Balston Spa and Jacksonville, the lanai with “Buddy”in Miami and the porch in Travelers Rest. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers/staff from Open Arms Hospice of Bon Secours/St. Francis H.S. of Greenville, SC and McCall Hospice House of Simpsonville, SC. Many thanks also, to our family who have helped keep Carrig connections/communications active over the years – Dan Lynch, Bart, Barbara, Kevin Carrig and Cherilyn (Carrig) LaVick, Joan, Blaise, Kenny and Lisa Carrig, and many others. Family and friends may attend a memorial for David on Saturday, August 21st at 11:00 AM, at the Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls, NY, with a gathering at the Little Falls Elks Club to follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY, Harry J. Enea, Jr., Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors (315) 823-2424.
