Obituary of Donald E. "Mac" McShane

FRANKFORT – Mr. Donald E. “Mac” McShane, 87, a longtime Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully at home, on Friday, August 6, 2021, with the love and support of family by his side. Born in Cooperstown, New York, on June 5, 1934, Donald was the son of the late Thomas and Louise (Weirs) McShane. He was educated in Richfield Springs Schools. On April 11, 1959, he married JoAnn A. Seppi, in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort NY, by Father Fuffard. The couple shared 55 years of love and mutual respect toward each other. JoAnn passed away on September 24, 2014. A very accomplished man, Mac retired from Remington Arms after many years of dedicated service. As a longtime member of the Ilion Fish & Game Club, Mac also had a passion for fishing, hunting and target shooting. As a loving and very family oriented individual, Mac enjoyed a special bond with his wife, JoAnn; and his son, Tom and daughter-in-law, Elaine, who he loved dearly as a daughter, and was a devoted uncle and friend to many. Don is survived by a son, Thomas, of Utica; a brother, John “Jack” McShane, of Elmira, New York; a sister, Sharon Ernenwien, of Westmoreland, New York; a sister-in-law, Rosemarie Button, of Frankfort, New York; special nieces and nephews who deserve our gratitude as well, Mary Jean and Jody Grippe, Michael and Sue Button, John and Wendy Button and James Button and Geri Button. He is also survived by many other special nieces, nephews and cousins, too numerous to name all of whom he was very close. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter-in-law, Elaine M. (Battista) McShane, with whom he had a very close relationship; special brother-in-law, Randy Button; and a sister-in-law, Leona (Reese) McShane. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to Dignity & Grace Homecare, 79 West River Street, Ilion, New York 13357 in Donald's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would also like to thank Jim and Mary Ann Carroll for all their help and support. A graveside service for family only will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 10:00 AM.
