Obituary of Gertrude V. Douglas

HERKIMER – Gertrude V. Douglas, age 81, a resident of Galinsky Apartments, at 105 Protection Avenue, in Herkimer, New York, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021, at the home of her daughter, in the Town of Salisbury, New York. After a hard fought battle, Gert was always blest to be in the comforting presence, thoughts and prayers of those she loved the most. She was born in Salisbury Center, New York, on February 19, 1940, a daughter of the late Ernest Jay and Ruth (Petcold) Herringshaw. She was educated at Stratford Central School. She worked last with Richardson Brands, Canajoharie, New York. She was of the Lutheran faith. She is survived by her beloved family: her children, Darlene Mykel, Gordon Brownell and Stephen Brownell; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews and close personal friends at Galinsky Apartments. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son, Leonard; and one sister; as well as four brothers. Calling hours will be held to celebrate Gertrude’s life versus a formal funeral service. They will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021, from 4 until 6 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, in Herkimer, New York 13350. (315) 866-1011. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the calling hours at the funeral home. Interment at St. Johnsville Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family, on Friday, October 1st, with Rev. David A. Johnson, presiding.
