Obituary of Mary S. Staffo

LITTLE FALLS - Mrs. Mary S. Staffo, 96, a longtime resident of Arthur Street and a lifelong Little Falls resident, passed away on Monday morning, November 29, 2021, at Alpine Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Little Falls, surrounded with love. Mary was born on March 5, 1925, in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Luciano and Anna (Yerina) Scarano. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School. She and Angelo M. Staffo were married on October 19, 1947, in St. Joseph’s Church, Little Falls. They were devoted to each other and had celebrated 66 years of marriage. Mr. Staffo passed away on November 20, 2013. She was a lifelong communicant of the Catholic Church, having attended Holy Family Parish, the former St. Joseph’s Church and for many years was a Rosarian. Mary was a Senior Accounting Clerk for the Little Falls Housing Authority, retiring after dedicated years of service. She had been a member of the DeCarlo-Staffo Post No. 8 Auxiliary, in Little Falls, having served as past Treasurer, Secretary and President. Mary’s lifelong devotion to her family and community was extraordinary and unsurpassed. She did have an additional joy that we all were blessed to appreciate through the years and that was her cooking. We fondly reflect upon the days when it all began on the Southside of Little Falls under the loving guidance of her parents. It was here that her father, Luciano Scarano owned and operated the Scarano Bakery and Mary began to pick up upon her amazing cooking ability. Through the years she had spent many hours in the kitchen preparing the most delicious and authentic meals. We are blessed to carry this tradition on today as Mary published her very own cookbook within her retirement years, which in fact had sold many copies. This keepsake will always remain her legacy for family and friends. She is survived by her loving family: a daughter, Anne M. Perra and her husband, Gregg, of New Hartford; two sons, Robert J. Staffo and his wife, Maxine, of Lyman, SC and William E. Staffo, of Little Falls; 3 grandchildren, Christopher G. Perra, Jaclyn G. Perra and Alexis Mary DeLarm; a sister, Jeanette Scarano Stonesifer; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank Scarano; along with her brother-in-law, Roy Stonesifer. The Reverend Donald Czelusniak will celebrate Mary’s Funeral Mass at Holy Family Parish Church, corner of E. Main & John Streets, Little Falls, on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 11:00 AM and burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring. Family and friends are invited to attend. There are no calling hours. Mary’s family would like to thank the staff of Alpine for their kind and compassionate care. Those wishing may contribute in Mary’s memory to H.A.L.O., 615 Albany St., Little Falls, NY 13365, or to the Alpine Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, 755 E.
