Obituary of Roy Howard Green, Jr.

BROOKLYN - Mr. Roy Howard Green, Jr., age 85, passed away on December 3, 2021, in his home. He was born April 5, 1936, in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn, the Son of Roy H. Green, Sr. and Louise (Metzler) Green. He Joined the United States Marine Corp, in 1953, at 17 years old and served in the Korean war. He has since supported the Disabled Veterans on a regular basis. He worked as a mason and was last employed by the Bricklayers Union, local 1 NYC Union and local 2 Albany Union. He was a very talented mason and even worked on the top of the Empire State Building when he was in his 20’s. He was the Foreman on the first ever restoration of the Empire State Building. He continued this work into his 70’s and was well respected by all. When he moved his family from Brooklyn to Little Falls in the 1980’s, he had an avid love for gardening and would grow just about every fruit and vegetable you could think of. He grew many different fruit trees, as well as chestnut trees. He was always outside mowing the lawn or tending to his garden and flowers. He was always making improvements on his beautiful country home, which we all loved to be in together. He loved horses, especially the ones you can bet on and eventually moved to Saratoga, NY for five years. Then, he moved back to Gerritsen Beach, in March 2020, to live with his youngest daughter, Tara. There, he enjoyed walking to the beach, the park and picking flowers. He also was planting tomatoes, lettuce and basil on their back deck. He pruned the flowers in their front and backyard and made their yard look beautiful. Then he’d sit back and relax with a sip of Dewars. Roy was a wonderful, strong, loving provider to his children, his son, Roy Green III, his son, John Green and his wife, Sarah (Willman) Green, Dana (Green) Gourtay and her husband, Frederic Gourtay and Tara Green. Roy doted on his grandchildren: Austin, Sean, Flavia and Della. They loved their “Papa” so very much and they learned so much from him. He is survived by his sisters, Linda (Green) Calabro and her husband, Frank Calabro and Jane Green; his brother, Jimmy Green; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who adored their “Uncle Bub”. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Roy H. Green, Sr. and Louise (Metzler) Green; his son, Roy H. Green, III; His brothers, Johnny Green and Eddie Green; and his sister, Laura Green. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Disabled American Veterans, 162 Atlantic Ave. Lynbrook, NY 11563 Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, in Little Falls, New York, on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 4 until 6 PM. We will end the visitation with a small funeral home Prayer Service. Interment will take place with full military honors in the spring, 2022, at Church Street Cemetery, in Little Falls.
