I met Richard at WADR, in Remsen, NY, Labor Day weekend, 1969. Woodstock had just happened, but we were proud to be "Okies from Muskogee". This was my first full time radio job, and within an hour of my new shift, both transmitters went off the air. I didn't have any instructions about what to do other than the owner being in Old Forge, but within a few minutes, in walked Dick Kane, who also had just started there as Chief Engineer, and we drove out to the site to work on the transmitters. We have been friends over the years ever since. So Richard, thank you for being my first "full time" radio friend. RIP.

Richard Kane at the WUSP-AM 1550 transmitter in Utica,N.Y., working with then current station engineer, Chet Bottorff, as they re-start the infamous Gates One - 1000 watt transmitter. Richard had also been chief engineer five decades earlier at then WBVM, the same station at the same site (off Oriskany Blvd, Utica/town of Whitestown). Photo taken November 15, 2018.
