Obituary of James J. Casey

ILION - James J. Casey, 94, passed away peacefully, on Monday, December 13, 2021, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, in Ilion. He was born on August 9, 1927, in Utica, the youngest son of Thomas and Anna Prendergast Casey and was educated in Utica schools. On September 5, 1959, he married a wonderful woman, Gladys Biernat, at St. Stanislaus Church, in Utica. They had been married for 50 years until her passing in 2009. After that, Jim took a lot of pride in being independent up through the age of 93 (with a little help from family and a beloved family friend). Jim liked to entertain people. In his youth, he participated in choreographed roller-skating contests and years later, taught himself to play the piano. He could always be found at family gatherings either behind the keys or behind a video camera capturing the moment. He always had a joke or a story to tell. He enjoyed simple things like his favorite cooking shows, his cat and working around the house. He maintained a sharp mind with a penchant for numbers. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara and son in law, Scott Ameduri, of Miamisburg, Ohio. He was predeceased by his wife; and 14 brothers and sisters. For safety reasons, a private viewing for immediate family will be held at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort), Funeral Directors Harry J.
