Obituary of Steven J. Jowett, Sr.

ILION – Steven J. Jowett, Sr., age 68, of Ilion, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, with his family by his side. He was born on April 7, 1953, in Ilion, the son of Sidney and Betty (Johnson) Jowett and attended Mt. Markham School. Steve was a Veteran, serving in the US Army. On February 12, 1983, he was married to Donna Blaise, at the Ilion Methodist Church. Steve was employed as an escorter, at Husted Concrete Co., New York Mills, NY, for 14 years. He later worked at the Sunoco Station, at Indian Castle, on the New York State Thruway. Mr. Jowett enjoyed NASCAR, fishing and enjoyed helping out at Route 5 Automotive with Jason Lyndaker. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially Poppie’s little love bug. Surviving family members include his beloved wife, Donna; his mother, Betty; his daughters, Carol Dennis and her husband, Jeff, of Sauquoit, Heather Jowett and Joshua Gantz, Sr. and Melody Jowett and her companion, Vanessa Juteau, all of Ilion; his sons, Fred Covey and Steven Jowett, Jr., of Ilion; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Lynn Guile and her husband, Harold, Tammie Greene and her husband, “Butch”, Renee Bayer and Judy Neale; his brothers, Thomas Jowett and his wife, Carol, of Clinton, Ronald Jowett, of Mohawk and William Jowett; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Doug and Carrie Blaise, Donald Blaise and his fiancée, Debbie and Stan Dawley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father; his grandson, Jeffrey Dennis; great-grandson, Dominick Proctor; stepfather, Francis Neale; and father-in-law, Donald Blaise. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location, at 4309 Acme Rd. (old Main St.) between Ilion and Frankfort. A Celebration of Life/Prayer Service will be held immediately after calling hours, at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
