Obituary of Genevieve Smith

FRANKFORT- Genevieve “Gen” “Genny” (Patti) Smith went home, free of pain, to her beloved Lord at the age of 91 on December 31st, 2022, with her loving, supportive family by her side. Genevieve was born in Rochester on December 29th, 1931, a daughter of the late Thomas Patti and Marion (Sarmie) Patti. She later relocated to Frankfort where she was raised and educated and would later establish the foundation of her own family tree. Genevieve dedicated years of service not only as a nurse at the Ilion Nursing Home but all while serving as a single mother of three. She retired from the nursing home in 1993 and spent the rest of her years serving as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Those titles that she was held to by her family were her most prized accomplishments. She was devoted to the needs of her loved ones, always putting herself last. She was content with “going without” as long as her loved ones had all that they needed. There was not a thing in this world that meant more to her than family. She joyfully became the baby sitter to every one of her five grandchildren. The love shared between Genevieve and her grandchildren was indescribable. Genevieve was the most selfless, genuine, honest, loving, and caring soul this world has ever known. She could turn a complete stranger’s day around with one her many compliments or smart remarks. During the very limited times that Genevieve was not beside her family, she enjoyed good times with even better friends. This would often entail very serious games of bingo in the community room at Litchfield Manor. In her personal time she would either be crocheting a hat for a grandchild or baking up some of her specialty desserts, like her famous fudge. Genevieve was truly one of a kind and will be missed every second by those left here on Earth. Genevieve is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Don Marrone; her daughter, Judy Bloomer-Smith; and her beloved son and daughter-in law, David and Joelle (Famolaro) Smith. She is also survived by her darling grandchildren, Scott & Jen (DeBlois)Marrone, Kelly (Marrone) & Jason Pekrol, Ariana (Smith) & Hector Rosado, Tyler Bloomer, and Zachery Smith & Brandon Curtis. She leaves behind her precious great-granddaughters, Tessa Pekrol, Anne Pekrol, and Peyton Marrone. She was also blessed to have been survived by her newest great-grandchild, Adrian Rosado. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and close friends which she shared much love for. Genevieve was predeceased by her dearest brother, Samuel Patti and his wife, Nelly. Genevieve’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all who provided Genevieve with genuine comfort and care during her numerous battles. This is inclusive of the of the angels at St. Elizabeth Hospital of Utica, the Alpine Nursing Home of Little Falls, the Bassett Medical Center of Cooperstown, and Valley Health Services of Herkimer. In lieu of flowers and food, the family is accepting donations to Valley Health Services of Herkimer.
