Obituary of Irene Vespi

Mrs. Irene L. Vespi, age 84, of Herkimer and formerly of St. Johnsville, entered into eternal rest on Monday morning, April 7, 2003 in Little Falls Hospital. Mrs. Vespi was born on September 17, 1918 in Smith's Falls-Ontario, Canada, a daughter of the late Antonio and Giovanna (Zuccaro) Marocco. She was educated in St. Johnsville schools. May 5, 1940 marked the beginning of a blessed and loving union of nearly 58 years when Irene was united in marriage with Cataldo (Dan) Vespi. The ceremony was held in St. Johnsville with the late Rev. Ernest Neville officiating. Mr. Vespi passed away on April 16, 1999. Irene was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, St. Johnsville. Irene placed the needs of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren before her own. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered as a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother.Mrs. Vespi leaves three beloved sons, Joseph Vespi and wife Dale of Jacksonville, FL., Robert Vespi and wife Peggy of Little Falls, Daniel Vespi and wife Cyndi of Bloomfield, NY, a loving daughter, Rosalind Colburn and husband David of Little Falls, two sisters, Louise Starna of Cooperstown and Ida Pagano of Gloversville, fourteen cherished grandchildren, James and Elizabeth Colburn, Joanna and James Boyles, John Colburn, Jennifer and Robert Cirigliano, Jay Colburn, Robert "Bo" and Tina Vespi, Michael and JoMarie Vespi, Desiree Gallagher, Laura and Tom Vespi, Robert and Mendy Vespi, Joseph Vespi, Angelo and Jennifer Vespi and Gabriella Vespi and fifteen adored greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and John Marocco and a sister, Paris Papa. Visitation at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 from 4-8 p.m. Mrs. Vespi's funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Thursday morning, April 10, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 :30am from St. Patrick Church, Center St., St. Johnsville with the Rev. Kenneth Swain, pastor, officiating. Irene will be laid to rest this spring in St. Johnsville Cemetery at a time to be announced.
