Obituary of James Cotter

Mr. James M. "Jimmy" Cotter, age 55, of 109 Furnace St., Little Falls and Piseco Lake, beloved husband of Ann (Urtz) Cotter passed away on Monday morning, Sept. 30, 2002 peacefully at his home. Jimmy was born on Nov. 16, 1946 in Little Falls, a son of the late J. Robert Cotter and Helen M. (McDonnell) Cotter who resides in Little Falls. He received his education at St. Mary's Academy, graduating with the class of 1964 and was a lifelong Little Falls resident. He was joined in marriage to the former Ann Urtz on Dec. 15, 1983 in Annunciation Church, Ilion, a blessed union of 18 years. He was last employed by MDS and at one time held employment with the former Snyder Manufacturing Company. He was a communicant of Holy Family Parish and a member of St. James Parish in Lake Pleasant. Jimmy was a member of the Elks Home, Ann Street, Little Falls; the Polish Community Club; and the Sons of the American Legion. Jimmy leaves his beloved wife Ann of the home address; his mother, Helen Cotter of Little Falls; a twin brother, Edward Cotter of Little Falls; three sisters, Noreen Zysk and husband Stanley of Little Falls, Elizabeth Cone of Little Falls, and Cathy Carpineti and husband David of Little Falls; three brothers-in-law, Thomas Urtz of Ilion, Steve and Celenna Urtz of Tustin, Calif., and Robert Urtz of San Diego, Calif.; an uncle, Thomas Burns of Burlington, Vt.; and several loving nieces and nephews. In addition, he leaves The Burns Family of Vermont and the Long Family of Little Falls, who were very special cousins to Jimmy; close friends Edward and Karen Becker and family of Little Falls, Ron and Lisa Barry and family of Rome, along with numerous other friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 5-8 p.m. Jimmy's funeral will begin on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 10:15 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered by Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ and at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John streets, Little Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles R. Celeste, pastor. In keeping with Jimmy's wishes, cremation will follow and interment will be privately held at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer. Kindly consider remembrances in honor of Jimmy to St. James Parish, Piseco Lake Ambulance or to the Holy Family Parish Restoration Fund.. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The family extends its sincere gratitude to all those individuals who offered endless support and encouragement during this difficult time: thanks to Dr. Dillard, the staff at Little Falls Hospital, Vera Rich, Chrissy Blanchard, Ann Zysk, and to many friends and neighbors who provided much needed and much appreciated concern, compassion, and kindness. Members of the Little Falls Elks Lodge will gather at the funeral parlor on Wednesday evening at 7 to conduct their service.
