Obituary of Rose Shostek

Rose L. Shostek, 60, of 1326 Kringsbush Road, St. Johnsville, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. She was born Jan. 15, 1942 in St. Johnsville, the daughter of Violet E. (Miller) Battisti and the late Joseph W. Battisti. Rose was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1961, and was a lifelong resident of the St. Johnsville area. Her marriage to John Shostek took place on Feb. 6, 1965 at St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville. For 13 years, Rose and her husband John owned and operated the Village Restaurant in Canajoharie. At one time she worked for the former Palatine Dyeing Company. Mrs. Shostek was a member of St. Patrick's Church and also its Altar Rosary Society until her illness. Because Rose considered her family as her foremost priority, she gave her full attention to the needs and concerns of her loved ones. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she truly enjoyed all the family gathering, especially the traditional Sunday dinner. Survivors include her mother, Violet of St. Johnsville; her husband of 37 years, John; a son, John Shostek Jr. and wife Beth of Canajoharie; three daughters, Deborah Mosher and husband Scott of Fort Plain, Dawn Failing of Palatine Bridge, and Jean Grandy and fianc? Jeff Doxtater of Little Falls; five brothers, Joseph Battisti and wife Connie of Fort Plain, Peter Battisti and wife Jane of St. Johnsville, Anthony Battisti and wife Patricia of Jordanville, Paul Battisti and wife Jeanne of St. Johnsville, and Dennis Battisti and Pia Kadtke of Palatine Bridge; her grandsons, Michael Shostek, Kory Failing, Chauncey (CJ) Mosher, Nathan Mosher, Kyle (Goober) Grandy and Samuel Shostek; a granddaughter, Kelly Pope; a great-grandson, Anthony Shostek; many nieces and nephews including Dave and Paula Sutton of Amsterdam; and several cousins, aunts, uncles, and in-laws. She was predeceased by an infant sister. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 9 a.m. from the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville and at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. All memorial contributions may be made to S.A.V.A.C. or to St. Patrick's Church.
