Obituary of Richard F Woodward

Cedarville: Richard Francis Woodward, Sr., passed away peaceably on October 7, 2013, ending a long painful and crippling battle from multiple medical problems. Richard, born December 1, 1952, in Utica, NY, moved with his parents to Cedarville in 1957, where he attended West Winfield Central School, leaving his graduating class in 1971 to join the United State Marine Corps, where he served as Commcenter man and Field Radio Operator, earning the National Defense Service Medal/Good Conduct Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal, being honorably discharged as Lance Corporal in 1972, only to re-enlist for 2 more years in the Marine Corps Reserves. He was then employed by Remington Arms, where he was awarded for his suggestion on an M/700 receiver. He was a life member and past commander of VFW Post 502, previous member of the Ilion Marine Corps, and the Utica American Legion. He devoted himself openheartedly to his annual Woodward Family Reunion, honoring his grandparents for over 50 years. He most enjoyed his last years residing in his childhood family home in Cedarville, NY, where he had taken care of his parents for over a decade. Richard was predeceased by his father, Francis L. Woodward in 2006, but leaves behind the love of his mother, Peggy Joyce Woodward; a brother, Kenneth; 2 sisters, Carolyn and Cynthia; daughter, Elizabeth and Kevin Byrd, and son Richard F. Woodward, Jr. and Marlene, both in Lincolnton, NC; son, Bradford and Lesley Woodward; daughter Dianna L. Woodward of Albion, NY; and loved as if his own son, Stanley and Kristy Hatch of Edmeston, NY; 12 grandchildren, listed respectively to above named: Katelyn, Heather; Sonja, Kyle, Seana, Alexandria; Brieann; Isaiah; Nathaniel, Shelby, Kristyn, Maryssa; and 1 great grandson, Cameron; Godchildren, 3 nephews, 1 niece, and hundreds of cousins, as well as very close friends, to include Wanda Horner of Mohawk, NY, and her family. Richard is remembered as being a jack-of-all-trades, per se, eagerly helping any who called upon him. His family takes solace knowing he pledged himself to our Lord in 1991, and wish to thank those who have helped him in his latest struggles. Due to the vast location of Richard's family, a private ceremony will take place in Cedarville Cemetery next to his father and grandparents. Richard would ask you who would like to honor his memory, to "take care of and spend as much time with your children as you can--I wish I could." The family is being served by Harry and Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors, Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (town of Frankfort) 894-8000. To add to Richard's online memorials, please visit our website at www.eneafamily.com.
