I have just found this site; what a beautiful obituary. I worked with Greg at Atlantic University in Va Beach, VA, associated with the Edgar Cayce A.R.E. He was an exceptional teacher of transpersonal/metaphysical art, as well as the director of admissions for our growing online Master's program. Students of his remember him! I would never have learned about Marcel Duchamp if it were not for Greg. He loved Disney, he loved Christmas displays of a Dickens' world, he loved collecting prints and posters that might have had art value in the future. God bless his children as you sort through those collectibles.
I am honored to have a print of an abstract that he made a good grade on at Pratt; it should be in a museum somewhere! RIP, Greg, and as you always said, "Rock on"!

To Greg’s family.
I saw with great sadness on my email this morning that Greg had passed. I felt a great loss come upon me and tears came to my eyes. Greg was my first mentor when I commenced at Atlantic University. In that first semester, he inspired and encouraged me and gave me confidence to go forward to complete my degree. He guided me with warmth and humour , taught me to trust my intuition and gave me an example of simplicity and kindness to follow.
I wanted someday to visit the US and Atlantic University and be able to meet Greg in person. That will have to wait now until another life.
I am so glad that I can light a candle for Greg here on the web. I will be lighting an actual candle in Western Australia as well.
Thank you Greg

Dear Deming family,
Please accept my deepest condolences for the magnitude of your loss: Greg.
Greg was instrumental in changing the direction of my life: I am an AU graduate. Greg's exquisite mastery of so many vital topics, his deep inner calm, thoughtfulness, and patience made him an excellent teacher and adviser! It was my great good fortune to have met him and to have been his student. Greg will continue to hold a very special place in my heart.
I wish you, one and all, the very best!

My heart and prayers go out to Greg's family at this time.
Greg was one of my first teachers at Atlantic University. 2006-2009. I chose the art transpersonal tract and he was my mentor as well. His guidance and warmth made the 3 + years obtaining my MA a wonderful experience. I think of him often and I am grateful for having him teach me the transpersonal view of the world and the art that we make by being in it.
Blessings,
Shari

My heartfelt condolences to the family. Greg was instrumental in moving my art to the spiritual level where I have found joy and healing. As a graduate of Atlantic University in the Transformative Visual Arts tract, I understand the impact of his mission and appreciate our long, energizing discussions. I so wished he could have seen my culminating project and the impact it had on me and so many others as he was my initial guiding light. Rest in Peace, Greg.

So sorry to hear of Greg Deming's passing. He was my mentor when I attended Atlantic University over a dozen years ago. He was so very helpful as a mentor, with keen insights and sound guidance. And I was so impressed with the collection of album covers he had in his office! I am sorry I am too far away to go to the memorial celebration. I hold his family in my heart.

I am deeply sorry to hear of your father’s passing. Greg was an instructor of mine at AU for both the Transpersonal Art and Shamanism courses, and he was an excellent mentor. In the old days, I enjoyed stopping in at AU and having discussions with Greg. He was insightful, thoughtful, and fun. I know he is enjoying himself on the other side and continues to be a bright light for others. No doubt he’ll do something quirky to let you know he’s still around -- he always had a great sense of humor.
With love, light, and blessings to you all,

My condolences to Greg's family for their loss. I can only hope that happier memories will help them through their time of loss.
I was a student at Atlantic University when Greg worked in the office. Years later, Greg turned the reins of Director of Admissions over to me. He was an incredible worker and a beloved teacher for Atlantic University. I am sure his many students will miss him and his compassionate support.

No doubt, Greg is spiritually surveying the universe, especially Arcturus since there was, according to Greg, a portal to Arcturus in AU's old "home office."
Blessings to all!

I am sad to hear of Greg's passing on. I worked with him for several years at Atlantic University, where in addition to his art teaching he did a lot of administrative work, and really helped AU survive during some tough times during the 1990s. His efforts made a big difference in its existence today.

My condolences to Greg's family as he makes his transition to the loving consciousness of Spirit. I feel sure that he has solved the mysteries of Arcturus by now. With heaven's colors as his palette, he is creating abstract art and planting beautiful flowers to his heart's content. He is taking side trips to DisneyOtherworld and teaching angels about Marcel Duchamp! In light and peace, Mary Warren

We send our deepest condolences to all of Greg's children, especially to Allison, who was a regular at our home as our youngest daughter Heather's dear friend.
We remember Greg & Mary fondly & always appreciated his amazing artistic talents. He was admired & respected at ENMU. His loss of his wife, Mary, was tragic at her young age. Greg loved his family and can be very proud of passing his love of art onto his children. Allison is a creative, gifted artistic like her dad. I still have a set of the brightly colored rocks that she & Heather made for me when they were young. Both of them also shared a love for music & still remain friends today. So many beautiful memories & insights were shared by Greg's children; clearly they loved each other very much. May you celebrate your dad's life this weekend & find peace & comfort by leaning on each other during this difficult time. Clearly he will forever be in your hearts & bring you many smiles as you remember the good times & creative life he lead. Blessings to all of you.

As the librarian for AiW-Dulles, it was my privilege to know and work with Greg Deming. He was an artist, a teacher, a family man, and a wonderfully pugnacious, deeply honorable Noo Yawker. I worked with him for five years in a variety of capacities whether it was setting up a workshop on Marcel Duchamp, proctoring makeup exams for his students, giving an info lit talk on library resources, or just having a conversation about our families. The last real conversation that I had with Greg, just a couple of weeks before he died, we talked about our holiday breaks and how much we enjoyed them. Specifically, he said “Well, I had all my kids under one roof for the holidays so that was nice.” I wouldn’t presume to call him friend but we were certainly friendly and there was no one here who was more supportive of their coworkers or their students. In five years, I never heard him say an unkind word about a student. He always believed in his students as much as he believed in the transcendent beauty of Diaghilev’s Ballet Russes or Duchamp’s masterpiece, Nude Descending a Staircase.
Greg always had time for his co-workers and even though his five years with Dulles was just a blip on his estimable resume, he was without fail a stand-up guy to me. Once, during a particularly bad day for everyone on campus, Greg spent 45 minutes of his own time just talking to me in my office about my own fears and concerns. Here was a man of vastly greater life experience than me being far kinder and more expansive than he needed to be – listening to my worries about family, bills, career, et al. He gave good advice, gently rolled his eyes with me over some of our mutual frustrations at this campus, and was just the absolute best person to me that day. He took everyone seriously, gave everyone respect and he never, ever lost his passion for art and education. He “died with his boots on” as a man who was still working, still vital all the way until the moment he died. We should all be so lucky.
My sincere condolences to the family of Greg Deming. He was a wonderful person and he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Sincerely,
Zayne Reeves
