In my 25 or so years working with kids, I constantly mention Mr. Ferraro. He was THAT teacher. The one you never forget, the one you strive to be like. What I remember most from 7-12th grade is hanging out in the band room, always being welcome there, and knowing that Mr. Ferraro could fix anything. He was a great man and a great teacher. I am so sorry for your loss.

Mr. Ferraro was an amazing teacher and gave me a life long love of music and performance. He was such a positive teacher and was so encouraging. I remember him encouraging me to try out for all-county band (and I wasn't that good), but somehow I made it and had a great experience. Even though I played clarinet (and he had a soft spot for the brass), he was terrific to all of us. I continued to play in college and beyond.
I was lucky enough to march in the St. Patrick's day parade, chilly though it was. It was a special treat. He was good to his students, dedicated, kind, and reprimanding when he needed to be.
My condolences to the Ferraro family. He was a special man.

Besides the many accomplishments in his life, he also was our high school class president. Our class selected John in the Mr. Gentleman contest. Over the course of his life, John lived up to that standard to everyone he met and to the many students he taught.
He will be missed.

Lynne, Jeff, and Jay, I was so sad to hear about your father's passing. He meant so much to me when I lived in Little Falls. You all were my neighbors but my admiration for him grew after I joined band. I really wanted to play tuba and he never tried to change my mind, even though it was bigger than I was. He just had me carrying around a giant dictionary to sit on to reach the mouthpiece! He taught me many life lessons through the years and he instilled in me a love of music I carry to this day. I'm grateful to have been one of his students and appreciate your sharing your dad with all of us. He was a kind and generous man who changed many lives for the better. My condolences to you and your family.

Mr. Ferraro - what a great man and an inspiring teacher! He had such a positive impact on my life and I thank him for that. The best reason to come to school was band time thanks to Mr. Ferraro. And what great experiences he brought forth for students, myself included. Everything from concert band to jazz band to the ever famous marching band (the band was really the star at football games). And how crazy was it that he brought us to NYC twice for thee big St Patty's parade? Showing us his Italian roots by dining at Mama Leones restaurant. A super big outing for us small towners. How generous Mr. Ferraro was in loaning me the bari sax to play over the summers in Military Band, even after I graduated from high school. And band was also a family experience. I have fond memories of playing bari sax in band with Lynne, and Jeff blowing a trumpet in my ear. To this day I still play music and in great part have Mr. Ferraro to thank for making it a big part of me. You Jazz Rock, Mr. Ferraro! - Celia Allen Williams, LFHS Class of 82.

Dear Louise, Jay, Jeff & Lynne...It was with a heavy heart that I learned of John's death. We go way back...meeting John when I arrived in Little Falls in 1977. We used to go for coffee early in the morning at Conte's...ah those days. He was a great teacher, mentor to his many generations of students and friend. I loved his sense of humor and we would laugh at each others jokes while exercising at the Little Falls Hospital Wellness Center.I indeed will miss him and his gumption, even in the light of what would have frustrated others. So rest in peace, my friend and know that we will see each other on the other side. Also, my prayers for strength and healing love are with you Louise, Jay, Jeff & Lynne, missing such a special man, husband and father. God bless you all...in love;
Father Steve+

Louise, Jeff, Lynn, and Jay, I’m so sorry for your loss. As you know, I spent a lot of time at your house while growing up and Mr. Ferraro was always warm and friendly. I was invited to stay for dinner more than I can remember and I always enjoyed spending time with your family. I don’t ever remember him yelling at me no matter how much trouble I would get Jeff into. John was a great guy as a neighbor, and a teacher, and a friend when I would return to visit. We pray that he is at home with God and we will continue to keep all of you in our prayers.

I'm very saddened to hear of Mr. Ferraro's passing. He was as patient and nurturing as he was firm and certain. "Don't apologize for playing" was one bit of his advice I took to heart, both on the drums and in my life.
He was one of the biggest influences on me in high school, helping me not just become a better musician, but a better person. I feel his loss deeply. My respects and sympathies to his family and friends.

One of the most selfless educators the Little Falls school district has known. My daughter respected him very much and I remember vividly the last concert when the seniors were recognized and they had a gift for him the student speaking could not keep her composure many were teary eyed. Just an all around good person. He was blessed with with extraordinary musical talent that he shared and nurtured in hundreds of children. When I was a school board commissioner I found him to be a dependable and valuable resource. To his family my prayers are with you all at this sad time ... please know that many share your sadness at his passing.

My Heartfelt Condolences to You All:
I have no words.... You've heard all of what I want to say and feel. Mr. Ferraro was 1 in a million. He was Loved by Many and will be missed by Many More!! To say what I learned from him is invaluable is an understatement... I STILL reflect back on my band days, and I graduated in 1985!! I can remember every rehearsal before a concert, every practice before Friday night football games (God they were the BEST- and practices were long and cold at the field- but we were Good)!! And WHO could forget marching in NYC for the St. Patrick's Day Parade? 2 yrs in a row..... That's when he said he was bringing LF to a new level... we weren't "marching"....we were "dancing/marching"!!! We were amazing!!! We Loved You, Mr. Ferraro!!! Rise High!! ❤❤

What a complete shock to me. John was a special friend to me. I used to teach over his store and one of the things that really sticks in my mind was when we went down to Fonda and I was demonstrating organs for him. Another one was when he was taking his finals and I went with him and his wife to accompany him somewhere around Albany. We all got laughing so hard. He said God, I hope I don't have to go through that again. He was a fantastic trombone player! He was always so funny and jolly. He never passed me without stopping and talking to me. I can't believe he's gone - another outstanding friend has gone before me. I'll miss you John and keep playing that trombone up in heaven. I'll be up later with my Dixielanders and we'll have a real good band! Helen
