Obituary of Thomas L. "Tom" Maury, Sr.

Mr. Thomas L. “Tom” Maury, Sr., age 57, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday evening, March 9, 2017. Born on December 31, 1959, Thomas is the son of Theresa (Servadio) Maury and the late Thomas A. Maury. He was raised and educated in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the Class of 1978. It was while Tom was still a teenager, that he met his lifelong sweetheart, the former Ellen L. Bonvicino. On September 6, 1980, the two were wed at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Holland Patent, and together, they have shared in over 36 years of love, laughter and friendship. Anyone who was lucky enough to know Tom, knew that he was hardworking by his very nature. For almost forty years, he has been employed with the Dave Hayes Appliance Center as a service technician. There was nothing that Tom could not fix, both at work and around his home, and he was always there for others when they needed him. Although tough as nails, Tom was a gentle giant; he would give you the shirt off his back and go without, just to be sure that you would not have to. His family meant the world to him, and nothing gave him greater joy than spending time with his wife, children and granddaughters. He spent his summers at the family camp in Sylvan Beach and enjoyed boating, camping and the great outdoors. When his boys were young, he took great pride in coaching their sports teams and was very proud of their accomplishments as they grew into respectful adults. Generous, reliable and supportive in nature, Tom will be remembered for being a good husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; his sons, Thomas Maury, Jr. and his wife, Courtney, Joseph Maury and Sarah Cook, and Michael Maury and Kali Fennimore, all of Frankfort; his granddaughters, Madison Sanders and Grace Maury; his mother, Theresa Maury of Herkimer; and his brothers, Louis Maury of Sylvan Beach and David Maury and Amy Hendrick of Herkimer. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Joanne Bonvicino of Utica; his aunts and uncles, Vinnie Servadio of Utica, Mary Louise and Michael Pastella of Herkimer, Sam Servadio of Herkimer and Ralph Servadio of Florida; his in-laws, John Bonvicino, Jr. of Whitesboro, Ron Bonvicino and Melissa Davis of Ohio, Kim Bonvicino and Chrystl Smith; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, too numerous to mention. Besides his father, Tom was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Louis and Louise Servadio, and his in-laws, Ella Bonvicino and John Bonvicino, Sr. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Tom’s calling hours, which will be held on THURSDAY MARCH 16, 2017, from 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Tom’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 7:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation. Memorial contributions in the form of Mass cards, can be made to Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church in Herkimer or to Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort. All service arrangements have been entrusted to Tom’s longtime friend and neighbor, Martin L. Ciaccia, and Harry and Kevin Enea, Funeral Directors.
