Obituary of Richard "Richie" Healey

MOHAWK – Richard Healey, 47, passed away on Wednesday March 22, 2017. Surrounded by his loving family, Rich lost his courageous battle with liver and colorectal cancer. Rich was born on February 14, 1970, to Helen (Hoke) and the late Edward Healey, Sr. in Herkimer, NY. He graduated from Richfield Springs Central School in 1990. Employed by LCS Janitorial Services for over 20 years, Rich worked at Remington Arms in Ilion, NY. Rich was very proud to be a member of the Mohawk Alexander Hose Company where he humbly volunteered with the Fire Police for several years. On August 15, 1998, Rich married the love of his life, Emma VanBuren of Herkimer. They were married in the Mohawk Reformed Church with Pastor James DeWitt officiating. Rich enjoyed golfing with his brothers, playing basketball and was a big fan of the San Francisco 49er’s and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed going to the Little Falls Diamond Dawg’s games with Sam and Sunday dinners watching golf with Frank, shopping with his sisters, supporting his nephews who played sports and he loved his bonfires with his friend, Susie Corona. Rich had the best sense of humor. He was a quiet, kind and gentle man who lived a simple life and was loved by many. Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Emma and his beloved canine companion, Bitsy of Mohawk. His mother Helen Healey of Mohawk, Mother – In – Law Isabella Moynihan of Ilion. His sisters; Mary (Sam) Mead and Dorina (Frank DeCarr), both of Mohawk. His brothers; Edward (Ann) Healey of Port St. Lucie, FL and Mark (Becky) Healey of Earleville, Maryland. His nephews and nieces; Ken Mead and his children Aden, Autumn and Addison. Keith (Amber) Mead and their son, Clayton. Ryan Healey and his son, Connor. Creedon Byard, Kari Healey (Wyatt Mallory), Kevin, Kelly and Gregory Healey, Maddie and Charlie DeCarr. His aunts and uncles; John (Jack) Hoke of Mohawk, Alfred (Mary) Hoke of Dolgeville, Sharon (Hoke) Bosch of Little Falls, Marguerite (Hoke) Hall and Irene (Hoke) Vandenberg, both of Herkimer. His brothers – in – law; Jim (Deb) Randall and Clyde Van Buren. Rich was predeceased by his father, both Hoke grandparents of whom he is the 60th grandchild. Grandma Sparks, Father – In – Law Sam Moynihan and Uncle Alan Ervin, who he held close to his heart. Rich had many aunts, uncles and cousins go to heaven before he did, including two very special cousins, Steve and Lynnette Hoke, who Rich felt were always with him and helped guide him to heaven. The family would like to give a sincere thank you to special friends, Ken Palmer, Don and Carol Elthorp, Irene Sweet and his Mohawk Fireman family Kevin Trevor, Wendy Kovac, Harley Brewer and Dan Mabbett. Many thanks to family, friends and neighbors for all of your support. Special thanks to cousins Leigh Hoke, Gregg Sponburgh and Philip Hoke and to Christine and Ruby for the countless phone calls and words of encouragement from the East to West coast and from the North to the South. Big thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Barb and Vinny Ceneviva at Paesano’s who always made sure Rich and Emma had some good food. Calling hours will be on Saturday March 25, 2017 from 1 until 3:30 PM at The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (town of Frankfort). His funeral service will begin at 4:00 PM and will be a Christian Firematic service inclusive to family participation. Spring interment will be in Middleville Cemetery. “Old Fox” Mohawk Firetruck is reserved for this very special occasion to bring Richie to his final resting place.
