Dear Green family - although many of us from Denver who held Carmen in high
esteem cannot be with this morning to give tribute at his memorial and funeral - please know our hearts and thoughts are with you - and our affection for Carmen is everlasting.

Everything I remember about Carmen is everything that is good with the world. The young Carmen, the Frankfort Carmen.( I didn't know the Denver Carmen very well, but I'm sure the Denver Carmen possessed all the same basic virtues of the Frankfort Carmen.) A smile, a good-natured wave, a funny story about Nicky Sylvester, respect given where it was due, boyish shyness always shining through, a glint in the eye. Now tears in my eyes because all that is gone, never to be shared again - at least on this planet Earth. We will miss Carmen.

When I served as President of Colorado Press Women several years ago, Carmen made my job so much easier. He always greeted me with a hug and helped me with our board meetings that I always ran at the Denver Press Club. I was there when his caricature was hung at the club and got my usual hug. For me, he was a big part of the press club and I will miss him.

I surely wish that I could have attended Carmen's service. He was a great friend from Denver Press Club Days. I used to call him when my friends and I were craving a hamburger on a Wednesday and he always asked, "how many are you bringing?," because I travel in packs. Anyway, my name is Rosemary and I don't tolerate nicknames, but from a very few, and he called me "Ro," without ever getting scolded. He was a delight, a peaceful man, and a good businessman. The world is less bright today.

So sorry to hear today that the former manager of The Denver Press Club and friend Carmen Green died. He was a remarkable man that everyone liked and loved. Several years ago I sold him my scooter that he buzzed around town in. Here are some photographs I took of him with his Induction on the Wall of Fame at The Press Club and a promo we used to asking members to pay their dues, the caption was: "Pay Your Dues Or You Will Hear From The Boys in Black." Carmen did not like his photograph taken but on these occasions I believe he liked it. God bless you Carmen.

So very sad to hear of our friend Carmen's passing - he has been very missed in Denver and now he will be remembered forever.
It is always the quiet men who are strong and give strength to others. Carmen was one such a man – taking from Ruskin, “I believe the first test of a truly great man is in his humility.” Carmen was never a man to grandstand or broadcast his many achievements, his friendships, luminaries he has known, and the crises he handled in business and in his personal life. Certainly he was hit with the most unkind of slow, withering diminution of his physical being that tested his strength and resolve. He met it head-on and played his best poker-hand he could – eventually he lost – but he is a winner in all other aspects. Carmen leaves many mourning him and knowing that for a brief moment in our lives, we met a truly “good man.”

Carmen was a friend from the Denver Press Club. He was such a hard worker, and he took his work very personally. When I was planning events to be held there, Carmen would meet at my convenience, often in "off hours" when he would have to drive over especially for that purpose. I could see the pride he showed when he opened the extremely heavy wooden front door of the old Club, it was like he was letting you into this own private den. Every time I would run into him there,he was so warm and caring...yet he had a special underlying coolness about him too - like he just knew things. My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace now. Joann Cortez

Carmen and I knew each other during our time in Colorado. I was a country boy from Oklahoma and he had a "funny accent." We bonded over our love of boxing and would always watch the big fights over at his house. I have thought of him often in the intervening years and I know he is resting well after a life well lived.
May his family take comfort in knowing that his zest for life was shared with many and that we grieve with you over the loss.
