Very saddened to hear this news. Dan had beaten cancer for so long I thought he would keep beating it forever. I knew Dan since I was 5 or 6 years old. He was always a big hearted guy. I visited Dan in Alaska several times where it was evident how much Dan had blossomed and realized his potential there. Dan knew all there was to know about fishing. He mastered using, maintaining, mending and repairing every piece of equipment on a commercial fishing boat. Dan was the most competent and accomplished commercial fisherman in Cordova, Alaska for at least the last 2 decades of his career. Years ago on a visit for treatment in Boston, Dan stumbled upon a “best commercial fisherman” contest, involving a variety of skill tests. Dan entered the contest at the spur of the moment and easily won, surprising all the New England fishermen who had never seen Dan before. Dan was also a great short order cook. One of the best meals I ever had was a breaded halibut that Dan made in a tiny motor home kitchen. I always enjoyed seeing Dan and catching up. Karen and Brittney were the great loves of his life. My sincere condolences to them and all his family.

Dan was a friend that I met in Ak back in the 80s. I remember fondly one day we had a teaspoon each, of his delicious treasured maple syrup, for desert. He was a good person I should have kept in contact with. RIP Dan You will be sadly missed and condolences to your family.

So sorry to hear about Dan. I knew him from Cordova and always thought he was the nicest guy. It had been many years since I'd seem him when in 2013 I returned to Cordova to visit family and ran into him at the Fisherman's Bunkhouse. It was so nice to see him again.
Sending love to his family and friends. May he be at Peace and surrounded with Love.

So sorry to hear of Dan's passing. We have rarely seen each other in recent years, but when we have, he always had that huge smile and warm greeting....His "extreme skiing" episodes and the rides to McCauley in his father's car when we were young will never be forgotten. My condolences to all his family.... Peace and God Bless

Karen and Brittany, I was so sad to hear of Dan's loss. He was a remarkable guy that always greeted us with a smile. He so enjoyed helping me and the boys with our equipment and just wanted us to enjoy skiing. He had a wonderful life with you and made the most of every day. Sending our love and hugs to all of you.

Dear Peg and the Jory family,
We have it on good authority that the skiing in Heaven is … well … heavenly. So with a little smile through the tears, we can imagine that after a big hug and a little catching up, Dan and Don, wearing big ear-to-ear smiles, will be busting through eight inches of fresh powder under a beautiful bluebird sky. Together again. This time eternally.
Please accept our sincere condolences.
Dan was a wonderful man who lived life to the fullest. We should all learn from that.

From the entire Dooley family please know how sad we are to hear of Dan’s passing. A great guy from a great South Utica family. As a kid I remember admiring his ability (and his brother Tom) on the slopes of the parkway. We pray that remembrances like this some how ease the pain of your loss. Again very sorry

Some of my greatest adventures began when I met Dan. Road trips, skiing and endless cups of coffee figuring out where to go next....
I first met Dan in the late 70's. Alaska was the destination. Upon taking the advice of a waitress in Anchorage, Cordova Alaska was the destination.
Beginning in the 80's Dan's life was consumed by all things fish. He shared his love of the ocean and outdoors with all the people he met.
Dan was a great friend to me and to many others. Thank-you Dan for all the great memories...
